Man convicted of rape and voyeurism |
||
A man who raped and recorded a woman undressing in Stoke-on-Trent has been convicted.
Jaroslaw Adamkowski, 42, of Stoke-on-Trent, appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Thursday (2 October) and pleaded guilty to the rape of a woman and two counts of voyeurism – recording a private act.
He raped the survivor in February this year and also recorded her in a state of undress on two occasions, without her knowing, in January. We later found the videos after examining his phone.
The survivor bravely came forward and reported the abuse to us in February, prompting an investigation. Adamkowski was arrested and brought in for questioning, where we managed to secure the evidence needed to charge him with a number of offences.
He originally pleaded not guilty to the offences, but because of the strength of the evidence and the courage of the survivor, he changed his plea to guilty in court last week.
Adamkowski has been remanded and will be sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 3 November.
Speaking following the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Razwana Nasheen, from our rape and serious sexual offences unit, said: “I’m pleased that we’ve been able to secure this result for the survivor who has been incredibly brave in coming forward and speaking to us about the abuse she suffered.
“I want all survivors of sexual offences to know that we are here for you and we are determined to seek the toughest possible punishment for those responsible for these heinous crimes.”
